JOHN NICHOLS

John Nichols   is a singer guitarist with a soul for the Blues, Rock & Popular Folk music. A reliable professional available at reasonable rates.

Originally a drummer/percussioist in a number of pub rock bands playing some of the biggest venues on the east coast supporting many Australian and some overseas music icons. John has devoted more recent years mastering the acoustic guitar and is currently working regularly playing at pubs, clubs and festivals as both a solo artist and with the Blues, Folk Rock trio South of the Big Smoke who released their first CD in 2010 titled “The Music Industry”.

How does John describe his music?

I'm always searching for quality covers to play that are well known but don’t fall into the cliché covers category of songs played by many artists. WhiIst I like to keep things real, ie I don’t use pre recorded backing tracks, I often incorporate a solid rhythm and punch into my guitar style,  probably stemming from my drummer days, and I sometimes play a stomp box (foot percussion device) for the rockier sounding songs. Having said that ,I’m just as happy playing the quieter ,more soulful  numbers or toning down the rocky ones for restaurants etc or as the job requires.

My repertoire includes hits from artists like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, James Taylor, Jonie Mitchell, Warren Zevon, The Church, Fleetwood Mac, Jimmie Hendrix and many others
