Formed in early 1998, LAS (Lost at Sea) is a four-piece band comprising Bass, Drums, Guitar/Piano/Violin and Acoustic/Electric guitar. The band features full 2 and 3 part harmonies and is totally committed to quality performance and attention to detail in the arrangements of songs and tunes. The material of LAS covers a large slice of music history between the 1950's to the 1990's.
This "50's to 90's theme" has been used to promote concerts for the Vic. Arts Council and SOCOG. Some credits the LAS members have been involved in during their careers: Victoria's Bicentennial celebrations, Vic. Arts Council and FEIP, Tall Ship celebrations at docklands, Melbourne to Osaka yacht race, Regular work at historic Victorian sites, Regular appearances at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, TV and Radio interviews and performances, airplay on selected US stations, overseas performances inc. Fiji, India and Hong Kong. Some of the band's influences: Crowded House, Ricky Nelson, Dean Martin, CSN, Paul Simon, The Eagles, John Denver, REM, Paul Kelly, Doobie Brothers, Hollies, Van Morrison, James Taylor, Colin Hay, Cold Chisel, Eivis, The Beaties, Roger Miller, and many others. Martin Smith has been playing piano for about 32 years and violin for around 21 years.
He started performing in 1986 as a classically trained musician. Marty has played in many varied types of musical ensembles, from orchestras to groups. Some of them have been The Kelly Gang, Threemasons, Shillelagh Goat and Heartwood. Kieran Dickson has been playing professionally for 23 years. His first instrument was guitar but moved to bass in 1979. Kieran has played in many bands including Bacon Head, The Kelly Gang, Heartwood and Shillelagh Goat. Ross Clarke has been playing music for 28 years. His first instrument was piano but moved to guitar in 1970.
Ross has played in many bands including Foaming Head, The Don Hilirnan Band and Secret Beach. Peter Mullins has been playing drums and percussion for about 22 years and performing for 19 years. He started playing in various rock bands until the late 70's and moved into the folk music scene around 1978. He has played in bands such as Moving Cloud, Arc Welders, The Keily Gang, Shillelagh Goat and Heartwood. Three of the members of LAS have been playing together for quite a long time. Kieran, Peter and Marty met during the bush music boom of the early 1980's in a band called "The Kelly Gang".
The band was together for about 5 years and provided a part of the history in Australian Bush Music. Lost At Sea was launched in 1998 after the demise of a vocallfolk band called Heartwood. Three of Heartwood's members, Peter, Martin and Kieran formed LAS and Ross was later invited to join the madness. We can also provide - a top Bose P.A. system (configured to suit the venue), a mixing engineer if required, a lighting rig and blackout curtains, a Stage Manager & road crew, biography's, photo's - all required programmes, song lists and schedule information.
