ONE FIRE DANCE TROUPE

ONE FIRE DANCE TROUPE

The group is so named because they encompass more than one tribe (mob) and unlike in the days of yesteryear, they welcome other Aboriginals from other mobs whether they are tradition friend or foe.

Melbourne, VIC, Australia
The concept is to dance around one fire in the spirit of reconciliation and harmony. The core dancers are Geof Tye (the leader and owner of the One Fire Business name) and his brother John Tye (Geoffs older brother). The Tye boys are from the Yorta Yorta people situated around the Barmah forest near Echuca William Moboume (our foster child and the youngest member of the group).

William is from the Gunnai people, from the Tarwin river in Gippsland, through the La Trobe valley to the NSW border. Jimba Possum Bums (grandson of the famous desert artist - Cliffird Possum) Three other dancers who formed the original group have moved away and only perform with them some times. In addition, there are a number of dancers who regularly join the troupe two or three of whom would make the Singapore contingent should the bid be successful.
