DAVID JONES

David began performing professionally 12 years ago when he became one of the resident magicians at Merlins restaurant in Fitzroy. At Merlins each table received their own 20 minute private magic show of conjuring and illusions. Much of the magic happened in the hands of the spectators themselves; coins appeared, disappeared and reappeared, playing cards changed colour and size, cut ropes were restored, and sponge balls multiplied. Customers returned again and again to be amazed and amused by the stylish sleight of hand performed at such close quarters.

After two years full time performing at Merlins David branched out into private engagements and corporate functions. He has performed close-up magic at wedding receptions, 21st birthday parties, 50th anniversary parties, cocktail parties, banquets, and trade promotions. He has worked his magic at wedding receptions on the "Showboat" while cruising the Yarra, at Gala Charity Events on the Spirit of Tasmania while cruising the bay, and has worked everywhere from the Great Hall at the National Gallery to private functions at Rahine, where he has performed on many occasions for Richard Pratt and the Visy Board company. Some of the many companies David has provided entertainment for include National Mutual, Smith Kline and Beecham, Gas and Fuel, Bosch, Digital, Jacobs Engineering, Logic, and Cariton and United Breweries. He has performed at the Australia Club, the Athenaeum Club, and the Savage Club, and appeared many times at the major Melbourne hotels including the Grand Hyatt, Hilton, Park Royal, Sheraton, Radison, and the Old Melbourne Hotel. He has performed strolling magic at the Miss Victoria Awards for several years, and provided close-up magic at the opening of The Circuit Sports Cafe. During 1995 he appeared at Mietta's on a regular basis performing close-up magic in a small theatre environment.

CHILDRENS ENTERTAINMENT David is the ideal magician for children of all ages. He has several different shows designed for children from three to twelve years of age. His shows run from 30 to 45 minutes and include lots of great magic, games, fun and audience participation. Every child who helps during the show receives a specially made balloon animal or, depending on the size of the audience, EVERYONE may receive a balloon animal. David's shows include flowers which continuously appear and disappear, sponge balls which multiply, vanish, change size and colour, and ropes which shrink, stretch, and refuse to be cut in half. All manner of gags, trick wands and magic hats are interwoven into strikingly visual magical routines culminating in chosen cards rising from a notepad drawing, coloured handkerchiefs invisibly flying from one side of the stage to another, Rubic Cubes instantly solving themselves, and a colourful picture of George the parrot plays hide and seek with the boys and girls and eventually reappears in an impossible location. A cute raccoon named Rocky delights the younger children, and locates a chosen card for the older ones. The famous Chinese Linking Rings link and unlink in the hands of audience volunteers, and one of the children gets a chance to win a Flying Saucer balloon by playing the hilarious "Yes" game with the magician. David has been entertaining children with magic for the past 10 years, and currently performs more than 150 shows per year. He has been the resident childrens magician at both the Highpoint and Northland Pancake Parlours for the past 7 years, and this extensive range of experience ensures the perfect show for every age group.
