In the year 2000 development funding was granted from Arts SA to Liana Vargas and her partner Chris Shepherd, with which they initiated Teatro del Mundo's first full length work entitled Cuban Gypsy. Since this time the company has been prolific in their out-put with their work being hailed as "original, insightful and inspiring," by their public and press.
This award winning company (Nexus Artistic Excellence) have a bent toward interpretating Spanish literature through the artforms of flamenco, jazz, contemporary dance, drama, music and song. They often add multi-media technology to the mix and/or live art and sculpture.
The artists in Teatro del Mundo are leaders in their respective fields, they are profesionals with extensive National and International performing experience. Their excellence has influenced the changing styles and interpretations of Australian flamenco theatre as they "break the boundaries everyday." Liana Vargas is currently developing a new work about the power and struggle of Duende with it's season in June and July 2007.
