XOCHIPILLI

Founded by Rolando over 14 Years ago in Sydney, the Group has been busy performing in venues ranging from the Sydney Opera House to theatres, clubs, restaurants as well as at festivals and carnivals.

The Group tours around New South Wales as well as to Canberra and Queensland and has featured in the Festival of Mexico held annually in Sydney.

The Group has also appeared on a number of T.V. specials.

As a founder of the Group, Rolando being a former Dancer with the famous Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, having danced with the Company for eight years and also working with them as a Teacher and Assistant Director.

Arriving in Australia in 1976 and worked as a Dancer-choreographer for an International Dance Company and later he decided to form my own group, which consists of 7 dancers, performing traditional Mexican Dances from some of the most colourful regions of Mexico.

The costumes used are traditional, some have been made in Australia under Rolando’s supervision and many are colourful original pieces from Mexico. Some of the dances are heavily influenced by Spanish footwork, stylised and adapted by the Mexicans to create a style uniquely their own.
