Amanda Grafanakis as seen on X FACTOR.
Amanda Grafanakis started young- penning her own songs at 8, learning piano at 12, touring Germany, England, Austria, and Japan at 14, and starting her first band in High School at 15.
At 16 she entered the national TV singing competition 'Start Struck', and was the only succesful Tasmanian auditionee. She won 'The People's Choice Award', and Ross Fraser (executive producer of Australian Idol and long time John Farnham collaborator) said, "Amanda has x-factor, there's no way this will be the last we'll be seeing of her."
Amanda continued treading the boards around her home town of Hobart, Tasmania, paying dues, and later dominating the local live scene, interspersed with several residencies in The Middle East.
Eventually realising she'd reached her full potential in Tasmania, and having gained the confidence she needed to move to the music capital of Australia, in 2006 she left for Melbourne.
In 2008 Amanda auditioned for 'Australian Idol'. Judge Ian "Dicko" Dickson saw what so many others have seen and will see in Amanda: "star quality and a fabulous level of performance, great pop/rock marketability, attitude, energy, and individual style." Kyle Sandilands said "You look great, have a strong voice, and you're one of the only ones that give 110%". She made it to the top 14 (bettering 37,987 people, if you need the perspective), and after returning to Melbourne was offered a shot at joining Rogue Traders to replace singer Natalie Bassingthwaite.
Amanda instead decided to focus on her own original project 'Saskia', featuring J. Vanderwerff (Anastacia/David Campbell/Caterina Torres), Aaron Barnett (The Getaway Plan), and Dave Anderson (The Getaway Plan). Saskia recorded in Australia and Dubai, where the ex vice-President for Sony Music Europe, Mark Chung, commented that Amanda's live performance was "amazing".
Upon her return to Australia, Amanda accompanied a friend to his X Factor audition as support, and was asked to give it a shot herself. She did so, and made it to the Top 9, wowing audiences with her quirky style and straight up attitude. She gained international superstar Ronan Keating as a mentor, and carved out her own niche in the industry as Australia's own answer to Gaga/Pink.
Ronan Keating said "Amanda has the best voice in the country", Natalie Imbruglia commented Amanda's performance and style is "amazing", Media bad guy Kyle Sandilands said "I hate to admit it, but I too loved it", going on to say that in his opinion, Amanda is fully prepared for international superstardom, with the voice, look, and uniqueness that will differentiate her from a sea of pretenders.
She gracefully emerged from X Factor with a legion of adrong fans, and a great deal of media attention, focussed on her unique melange of talent and personality.
Amanda sings anything from Motown/R&B to punchy rock anthems, back down to heartfelt ballads- always with emotional conviction and that road-proven ability she has come to be known for.
Amanda is a true star- talented, individual, stylish, and sassy. Her down to earth nature and compassion for helping others makes this young singer someone to watch internationally.
