Toowoomba, Toowoomba, QLD, Australia

Brett Butler is a country crooner from Queensland Australia.

I sing easy listening music / country music.  Some say I have a folk sound with some of my material and I am really passionate about love songs.

Now based in Toowoomba, Brett grew up in South-East Queensland and later worked and lived in CQ. Brought up on a small country property between Stanthorpe and Warwick, Brett helped his parents grow a variety of crops from an early age. He was not a stranger to hard work, working on a large farm just outside of Stanthorpe over a number of years. A passionate and empathetic person by nature, Brett enjoys spending quality time with friends and cruising on his thunderous motorbike the “Blue Diamond”.

Musical JourneySinging and writing poetry have been interests of Brett’s from an early age. After Christmas in 2005 Brett recorded some cover songs with his cousin Gary Butler. Playing these covers to friends and family without informing them who was singing, Brett found the songs were very well received.
Encouraged by friends and family Brett began writing lyrics that close friend Stephen Jackson accompanied with music. Feeling a real sense of achievement after their first experimental song Your Soul, Brett and Stephen teamed up to create a number of songs including Beautiful Brown Eyes and More Than A Pretty Face (included on his debut album No Truer Friend).

Seeking a simple guitarist, Brett placed a standard advertisement on a shopping centre notice-board. Brett could never have dreamt who would respond - the highly successful songwriter (Golden Guitar Finalist 2007), vocalist, professional guitarist and producer Johnny Kaye. At Dolphin Studios Johnny Kaye enjoyed one of Brett’s first songs Beautiful Brown Eyes. Only a few months later Brett recorded this song under the watchful mentoring of Johnny Kaye whose incredible production experience and skills have been essential in producing No Truer Friend, a set of unique and catchy songs primarily written and sung by Brett Butler. Brett’s first CD would have never been complete without the many talented musicians and vocalists playing their very important roles

Musical Journey
How I got into songwriting... what a long story!!!
Basically I was asked by a fair few people to record some covers of country music, folk music and easy listening tunes... this took a few years but eventually I did it with my cousin while having a jam and a few beers recording on a four track tape recorder.  I ended up playing these recorded easy listening songs to my friends (who didn't know it was me) and they said they were really good and that I should do something with recording – so I did.

I've always loved to write poetry and it dawned on me that this was the essence of songwriting...  So I wrote a couple of poems/songs and asked a mate if he could put them to music.  I had the melody and he worked out the chords.  The first song I ever wrote and put to music was called “My Soul”, a heart-felt love song.

Next thing you know that went well and we began recording other home recorded songs with a folk music flavour.  My mate Steve and I did up a few draft songs and then Steve was getting really busy in life so that led me to look for someone to work with just to work out chords for music and that sort of thing... BUT what happened was I put out an advert in a few local shopping centres and I only got ONE response...

The person that replied my advert just so happened to own his own mastering studio, had worked with many big name country artists, was a successful songwriter, vocalist and professional guitarist!!!!  He heard my music and liked it and asked me to come back... My second meeting with Johnny was when I first recorded "Beautiful Brown Eyes" my first studio song...
