Marcos has made an impact on the racing scene and has a great story to tell.  He is a fresh face who will bring that little extra to any fuction or event

Brief History

  • There's nothing like making a big impact in your first V8 Supercar race and that's just what new Ford sensation Marcos Ambrose did at the 2001 Australian Grand Prix.
  • He claimed pole position in the dying minutes of qualifying - upsetting pole king Mark Skaife - set a fastest lap, biffed Steven Johnson off the road and copped a $2,500 fine from stewards.
  • It wasn't a dream start but one that served notice that the 24 year-old Tasmanian 'Devil' Racer is quick, not overawed, and ready to stick his car on the line to win.
  • Ambrose might be fresh faced but he is by no means wet behind the ears.  In just a few short years he's managed to compile an impressive CV.
  • Leaving Australian to chase the elusive F1 dream in England in 1996, he learnt quickly and won regularly.  He out-qualified Jenson Button in the 1998 British Formula Ford Festival and did the same to Kimi Raikonnen in '99 (they're both in F1 now) and was the 1999 European Formula Ford Champion.
  • Despite his success, Marcos needed further financial backing to continue chasing his F1 dream and this wasn't forthcoming so it was time to come home and show Australia what he had learnt.
  • Ambrose exudes confidence - all the young aces do - but spend time with him and you sense he can back up the bravado.
  • The Stone Brothers and Ford certainly thought so, signing him to drive for them in the V8 Supercar series from 2001. "Stone Brothers Racing took a risk with me," Ambrose states. "And I'd like to think the risk was a pretty good one as I've finished 8th in the championship and won Rookie of the Year in my first season."
  • The round win at Hidden Valley in Darwin and Pole Position at the Bathurst 1000 were just some of the highlights of what promises to be an exciting V8 Supercar career.
  • Marcos was also awarded the CAMS Personality of the Year Award for 2001.
  • 2002 has started with a bang.....snaring pole position at Phillip Island before going to record his debut race win in the first race on the island.
