FRANCES QUINN ARTS ENCOURAGEMENT AWARD The Frances Quinn Arts Encouragement Award is presented to an outstanding, talented 1st year music student at the Victorian College of the Arts, School of Music.
The award is presented in honour of Frances Quinn who was a member of the Zonta Club of Melbourne Yarra. Fran had a great interest in theatre and particularly singing. She had a very charming, lively personality and was a very popular member. When she died of cancer at the age of 54, the Zonta Club of Melbourne Yarra together with the Quinn family held fundraising activities to build up a trust fund so that a music award to support young talent could be presented in her memory.
The Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra is continuing the tradition. Zonta International’s mission is to advance the status of women through service and advocacy. Zonta also seeks to advance tomorrow’s leaders through mentoring and scholarship programs designed to encourage students, especially young women, to follow career paths which befit their talents.
The Frances Quinn Arts Encouragement Award is an example of this approach. This year’s concert will be held on Sunday 7th October at 2,30 p.m. at Federation Hall, Victorian College of Arts.
