The Byron Bay Film Festival (BBFF) is an Australian international film festival dedicated to presenting a strong program covering all lengths and genres of film produced both locally and internationally.
An alternative lifestyle Mecca, surfers’ utopia, filmmakers’ hub and millionaires’ playground, Byron Bay’s artistic free thinking community is a melting pot like no other.
Local content reflects the broad interests and values of our local community and maintains a strong emphasis on social and environmental issues, indigenous culture, human rights, arts, music, colourful local characters and of course, being Byron Bay, surfing. While international entries can take their audiences to places never before seen or experienced offering insights and entertainment along the way.
The team at BBFF believes in creating opportunities wherever possible and as such aims to provide a platform for independent filmmakers in all stages of their careers. By profiling selected filmmakers and promoting their films both before and after our festival BBFF brings the work of talented filmmakers to an intelligent and appreciative audience which include prominent members of the Australian film industry.
Sponsored awards categories include but are not limited to Best Film, Best Short Film, Best Drama, Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Experimental Film, Best Animation, Best Environmental Film and Best Surf Film.
Byron Bay Film Festival 2008 runs from February 29 to March 8 in the glorious Northern New South Wales town of Byron Bay. Regular entry closes September 30 and is only AU $25 (Approx US$20). Final submissions close October 31. Filmmakers are encouraged to submit paperless entires using Withoutabox.
