More than 90,000 festival goers are expected to populate Prince Alfred Park on Saturday 12th April 2008 for the hottest Surry Hills Festival yet! A top line up of artists and bands, more than 250 market stalls, the infamous Surry Hills Dog Show and for the first time, a cat walk, showcasing fashions from local designers are just some of the wonders this community festival has to offer.
The 2008 Surry Hills Festival is a melting pot of the community’s finest culture and creative arts. Over the last eight years, the festival has provided an excellent platform for the district’s emerging designers, artists, musicians and entrepreneurs to showcase their talents, with the invaluable opportunity to gain some well deserved exposure and recognition for their contribution to the community. Prince Alfred Park, located in the eclectic heart and soul of Surry Hills, provides the perfect backdrop to a tantilising range of stalls and markets at the 2008 Surry Hills Festival.
Explore unique treasures at stalls reminiscent of a Middle Eastern bazaar. Visit the Artisans quarter and marvel over the hand-made crafts and artwork. Indulge in freshly prepared local gourmet fare at a variety of food stalls – enjoy brunch, lunch or dinner – or just snack your way through the day! Six entertainment stages are set to pump out live rock, jazz, acoustic and world music throughout the day. DJs, kid’s artists, amusement rides and entertainment for the young at heart will ensure there’s something appealing for everyone. Keep your eyes open for roving entertainers and street theatre… or even enter your very own dog in the Surry Hills Dog Show Off!
Festival is produced by the Surry Hill Neighbourhood Centre as a major fundraiser for the Centre’s community services. Now, in its ninth year, the Festival continues to grow and the true spirit of our inner city comes to life with the generous support from local business, community artists, bands and residents.
Entry to the festival is free. A gold coin donation to the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre is requested.
