Opera in a little black dress...Brisbane’s operatic angels Belladiva are Australia’s most glamorous pop-opera group, a quartet of sassy sopranos changing the face of opera. This alluring group of young sopranos charm and captivate audiences with their unique sound and striking musical arrangements of opera classics, pop opera hits, musical theatre favourites and their own style of electro-opera. This is opera like you’ve never heard before. The greatest operatic arias are propelled into the 21st century with modern style and sophistication.

The Belladiva story so far...

Early in 2008, a group of sopranos met in opera class and decided to bust through the walls of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music to form an operatic group with a difference.

Following the success of groups like The Ten Tenors and inspired by a trip to Paris during the Fete de la Musique, opera singer Alicia Cush decided that she couldn't let the boys have all the fun! Upon hearing that the festival was heading to Brisbane, Alicia realised that it was the perfect opportunity to get together with Brisbane's best up-and-coming young sopranos, form the glamourous Belladiva and take sublime operatic music to the masses.

The girls have gone from strength to strength in the past four years, performing live to more than 75,000 people nationwide, including appearances at Channel 9’s Carols in the City, the Queensland Pops Orchestra New Year’s Eve Spectacular, Brisbane Festival, The Woodford Folk Festival, the Starlight Foundation 5 Chefs Dinner and The 20th Man Fund Gala.

The divas are vibrant and compelling solo performers in their own right, backed by years of national experience, including performances with Opera Queensland, OzOpera, Oscar Theatre Company, The National Youth Choir of Australia and The Southern Cross Soloists 2. Combined, they have a special dynamic and energy that can only be found amongst a group of friends who love performing together and share the same passion for pop-opera music.

In 2010, Belladiva embarked on a recording project of their favourite songs from the worlds of pop, opera and classical music. Their debut EP 'Secret Chord' features their own unique crossover arrangements of classics such as Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and Sting’s ‘Fields of Gold’.

This year brings a brand new challenge to the group with the exciting Aria moderna project. Belladiva has joined forces with some of Brisbane’s finest electronic producers to create brand new electro-opera music, taking the traditional concept and design of some of opera's most beautiful melodies and deconstructing them through contemporary eyes and ears.
