One of Canberra's great jazz trio/quartets available for functions, parties, wineries, corporate events. Standards to modern.

Canberra and region, incl NSW south coast, Canberra, ACT, Australia

The financial crisis continues to ease and it seems the world is still turning; time to eat, drink and be merry again (still?). This activity must be done to music, as you would know, so consider the delights of Equinox, an experienced mainstream but innovative jazz quartet available for all events.

Built on a piano trio, we add reeds players or singer to taste according to the needs of the event. We offer standards from the early 1900s on to more recent tunes that have become classics in the jazz genre – treated with our own style or interpretation but always tight and tuneful - classic chord changes, recognised riffs and beyond, some would say into uncharted waters.

Equinox is already well known at several Canberra and surrounding establishments like Wallaroo Winery, Poachers' Pantry and Adore Tea, and other regional wineries in the 'high-and-dry' category. The sommeliers probably have a less derogatory term for this region, but Equinox definitely adds a new flavour and decidedly aromatic after taste - all great fun along the way. We are expert in pitching the style and mood according to occasion or the stage of an event, and are available at relatively short notice for corporate and private occasions.

From Porter to Shorter, styles from Miles, bossa to blues, even (horrors!) funky flippancies. Well,  'Cole to Wayne', 'Duke to Antonio Carlos' don't have quite the ring do they?  Anyway, you get the idea; skip straight to the sample repertoire list below, though goodness knows by the time you read this we will have come up with many new titles for tasteful value-adding by your new friends at Equinox.

The rhythm section is the core trio but nonetheless quite cooperative, humble and supportive for the most part, consists of Peter Rogers on bass, Michael McFadden on drums, and on keyboard Brendan O'Loghlin AO who also brings you vocals if we can't find anyone better looking: tough call. Equinox is led by one of us - we are still arguing that but we seem to start on time all the time like the Swiss railways, just as smooth but cheaper.

Peter is actually a former guitarist in disguise, so we can't get away with much. He transferred to the cooler realms of bass playing some years ago – and to substantial effect. Michael is also an experienced musician, having been with many different groups over the years and laying down interesting and even non-deafening grooves.

Brendan O'Loghlin, who says he's the real leader, plays and sings with several groups, including classical a cappella, gospel, latin and pop. He takes up flutes, bass or guitar for other groups – see Los Amigos del Tango on Entertain Oz under 'bands>latin'.

Experienced musicians with very different backgrounds combine to produce a unique and delectable sound. We look forward to working with new clients in the Canberra region.
