Around since 1992, it wasn't until 1996 that the current Alarum came to fruition. A very rough demo "Blueprint", recorded on a 4-track at Palfreyman's house was released in 1996 to show the new band line up. It showed a progression from the death metal style of the past towards their new fusion/metal direction. Influenced by a variety of artists and styles the band grew, playing many live shows around Melbourne and recorded their debut CD "Fluid Motion" which was released early 1999 through Metal Warriors.
Alarum have played many headlining and support shows with other Australian bands such as Earth, Segression, Cryogenic, Alchemist, Damaged, Frankenbok etc. They have also been included on festivals such as Hanging Rock Festival 1999, Metal Warriors Helloween Festival 1999, Metal for the Brain 1999 and in 2000, they played in Sadistik Exekution's place of third from the top. In addition, the band toured Tasmania with Dreadnaught, Adelaide with the Berzerker & OmniumGatherum, Sydney with Dungeon and various other Melbourne shows in 2000.
The first song from the Fluid Motion CD titled 'Realization', was featured on Triple J's 3 Hours Of Power compilation 'Full Metal Racket' in 2000. A film clip for the song was produced and has had rotation on Rage (ABC) and Channel V (Foxtel). 2001 will see the band release their 2nd CD, play shows in Melbourne and tour other Australian states & territories. A video release is also being planned. With this foundation, Alarum are trying to make roads overseas, whilst remaining active within the Australian metal scene. Creating balance between sonic light and shade, the band combine musical forms in a way that encapsulates the song, and captivates the listener.
