Specialising in Jewish Weddings, Barmitzvahs and Functions
Klezmer is infectious music originally played by Jewish musicians in Eastern Europe for celebrations, rituals and dances. Nowadays the term includes more modern Jewish music and music from Israeli, Yiddish and Chassidic sources. Often it is fused with other styles such as jazz or latin.
This gypsy influenced music ranges wildly from speedy, manic, dance tunes with pseudo-Balkan rhythms to slow, melancholic pieces. KLEZMERITIS is a band of Melbourne musicians who play mainly for Jewish weddings and other functions. Within the last year the band has played at venues including private homes, the lawns of Como House in Melbourne, the Sydney Regent Lincoln Receptions and the Moomba festival.
KLEZMERITIS is composed of four musicians playing the traditional instruments of this style. The band leader Ernic Gruner is a violinist who has been performing in the klezmer scene for several years and has given workshops at Australian festivals. Russian conservatorium trained llya Lin plays virtuoso clarinet. Accordion player Phil Carroll has experience with gypsy and middle-eastem music. Double-bass player Ron Hansen has performed in classical and jazz fields.
KLEZMEIRITIS is available for functions, roving or concerts.
