BRUCE HOPKINS

BRUCE HOPKINS

The first person from Stewart Island to act on Hercules and Xena...

VIC, Australia

Bruce Hopkins is a product of that fine year 1955. He began life in the southern climes of Stewart Island (he has subsequently become the first person from Stewart Island to act on both the television shows, Hercules and Xena ... as far as he knows, anyway). Combining 20 years of professional performing experience with an enjoyment and fascination of life and the diversity of the human experience, Bruce can work with you to create an atmosphere that will honour your purpose and needs, as well as giving some of his own personality to the occasion.

Brief History

  • Ages 0 - 22 years saw Bruce do time in various institutions of education, culminating in a Diploma in Physical Education (yet to be framed and hung on the wall) from Otago University.
  •  After time spent as a commercial crayfisherman, Bruce came across the world of performing and getting paid for it. Ten years as a professional dancer with companies in Australia and New Zealand (including Limbs Dance Company); two years as a company actor with the Mercury Theatre of Auckland and nine years in the realms of freelance performing, have lead Bruce to publicly declare that he will stick with performing and relinquish his desire of becoming a CEO of an SOE.
  • Some memorable moments in the performing life of Bruce Hopkins include: · Being at the births of his three children (twice having to leave dress rehearsals to do so) · Touring to Papua New Guinea, Mexico and New York, with dance companies · Winning the inaugural NZ Theatresports Tournament as a member of the "Von Trapp Family" and representing NZ at the World Tournament in Brisbane · Performing at the Adelaide International Festival, the Sydney Festival and the Zurich International Festival in theatre shows · Hosting a top rating radio show on Newstalk ZB, as one half of the comedy duo Des and Les · Performing for Kiri Te Kanawa in a marquee at her Bay of Islands home as part of her 50th birthday party · Being part of the first two sell out seasons of "Ladies Night" · Entertaining guests for Douglas Myers wedding · Compering and performing at functions all over the land of the long white cloud.
