The founder of National Speakers Association in Australia, John Nevin, tells this wonderful story about a National Cash Register salesman who year after year was the top producer in the Company. Leading up to an annual convention he was askedddd if he would do a keynote presentation and speak to the attendees and tell why he was so successful. When it was time for his presentation he strode to the lectern and said "The reason I sell more National Cash Registers than anyone else in the company is because I know more about National Cash Registers than anyone else in the company!" He then returned to his seat and sat down!

What is Zebra Marketing?

Max's Zebra Marketing Principle states "If you take time to think about standing out from the herd, you can achieve low budget and often no budget marketing."

In any small business (a business with annual turnover less than $10,000,000) it is difficult to gain market prominence. We simply do not have the budgets utilized by the larger national and multi-national companies. They certainly use the Zebra marketing principle! (I never see a Toyota without thinking of jumping in the air and clicking my heels....) However, their use of Zebra marketing is dependent on enormous advertising budgets. In small business we don't have those huge budgets to play with, hence we have to "do it smarter".
