He is the author of "China Media - The Ethics of Influence", featuring interviews with 10 of Asia's most influential media operators, journalists and public relations consultants.
Prior to establishing 8M, Tom had a distinguished 12-year career with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. At age 28, he was the youngest ever ABC Senior Executive to be appointed to the position of Manager Regional Stations in Western Australia (1991 ¿ 1997). He has also managed Perth's news, information and entertainment station, 720 6WF. Under his leadership both these networks became the ABC's highest rating regional and metropolitan radio stations.
He is a former Executive Producer of Rural Programs in Western Australia and presenter of a national Mining and Resources program on Radio National. Other television and radio credits include Country Hour presenter - Western Australia and Tasmania, Rural Reporter - Sydney and Launceston and weather presenter for ABC TV News.
Tom has won several State and International broadcasting awards and in 1988 was the recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship for Young Australians. In 1999, Mr. Murrell was awarded a prestigious Vincent Fairfax Fellowship. This leadership development program enables ¿people of exceptional promise to make a difference to the world in which they live¿ and is designed and administered by the St James Ethics Centre, Sydney. Academic qualifications include an Honours Degree in Agricultural Science from Adelaide University, a Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of New England and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Australia.
Tom is a dynamic and highly sought after presenter and is an accredited professional speaker (APS) with the National Speakers Association of Australia.
A former Australian Junior Hammer Throw Champion and three times Australian Intervarsity Champion, Tom was awarded a Full Blue in Athletics from Adelaide University in 1984. He was selected in the Australian Track and Field training squad for the 1982 Commonwealth Games.
An active interest in garden design is fulfilled as Chairman of Australia's Open Garden Scheme in Western Australia, a not for profit organisation which aims to promote the knowledge and pleasure of gardening.
