Formed in 1996, Klinger spent their first few years establishing themselves as live favourites in Melbourne, releasing two independent EP's, supporting Everclear, Even, Pollyanna, and more, taping a live set for Triple J, appearing on ABC's Recovery program and having a hell of a lot of fun.
Klinger turned the corner in 2000. Hello Cruel World put Klinger in people's ears, and the video put a face to the name. This translated to more live work, including support slots for Green Day, Bodyjar, Unwritten Law, The Fauves and the Mavis's, tours to Perth, Adelaide, New South Wales, more of Victoria than is recommended, and all without a record deal, with only their wits to protect them.
If that wasn't enough, Klinger have just released the Sayonara Anyway/ Ben Lee single. Recorded in Melbourne with producer and friend Neil Gray (Grimshaw Street) the single shows a new side or two to Klinger, namely intelligent and tasteful retro-pop (Sayonara Anyway) and space-age synth work (Ben Lee). The double A-side lives up to the potential Klinger have always shown, and is shaping up to consolidate them as a nationally recognised and respected band.
