AFL legend and Channel Nine personality Dermott Brereton aka "The Kid"is a household Australian name. After an illustrious career with the Hawthorn football club where he played in five premiership sides and represented his state on nine occasions, Dermott has forged a successful career as a television presenter, football commentator, newspaper columnist,and radio host.

In 2007, Dermott joined the cast of the award winning Channel Nine prime-time travel show ‘Getaway’, marking his transition from AFL sports personality to national prime-time lifestyle host. Dermott’s versatility on T.V has seen him take on several high profile roles over the years. In 2006, Dermott glided onto the ice as a participant in Torvilland Dean’s Dancing On Ice, where he unfortunately injured himself and had to retire prematurely. He is also a presenter on the Today show, and in 2006 took on the role of weather man in Steve Jacobs’absence. Dermott also hosted the popular Victorian travel show Postcards before moving to Getaway this year.

In his capacity as sports media personality, Dermott hosted and provided special comments for Channel Nine’s Friday Night football before Nine lost the AFL rights in 2007, and he continues to make appearances on the AFL Footy Show where he has appeared as a panelist for many years. Dermott also completed a two year stint with Channel Seven in 2000, which saw him take on a role as host of Channel Seven’s prime time football program The Game. He also hosted Sportsworldnationally and played an integral part in Channel 7’s Sydney 2000 Olympic Games coverage.

Today, Dermott continues his activities as a leading football media identity, as a columnist with the Herald Sun newspaper, and as one of the key members of the SEN radio’s AFL commentary team.

Dermott’s playing career saw him play over 200 games mostly for Hawthorn, later playing at Collingwood and Sydney, kicking 464 goals in total over his professional career. Dermott, an icon of the game, is widely regarded as one of the best centre half-forwards of all time.

Dermott had many notable highlights during his career, includingthe famous incident where charged through Essendon’s three quarter huddle in 1988, and in the 1989 grand final where he was severely concussed and began vomiting on the ground after being charged by an opponent,only to return minutes later to kick an inspirational goal –it was this particular incident so fondly remembered, that became the subject of one ofToyota’s Memorable Footy Moments television commercials.

After retiring in 1995, Dermott took on the role as coach of theAustralian team for the International Rules Series against Ireland for 2 years.

Dermott’s success ‘on screen’is a testament to his warm personality and fun loving approach to life. He’s the quintessential Aussie ‘larrikin’with a big heart and love of adventure.

Dermott is also a highly sought after keynote speaker at corporate and sporting functions, having recently emceed/spoken at events for Telstra, Melbourne Storm and the Financial Planners Association. He has also been involved in various marketing and advertising campaigns over theyears for brands such as Tip Top Bread, Adidas, Tabcorp, Toyota and Myer Melbourne.
