CHARLIE PICKERING
STAND UP COMEDIAN / WRITER / BROADCASTER

Edgy, polished and inventive, Charlie Pickering is one of the most exciting names in Australian comedy.

2008 has been a big year for Charlie, as he spent the first 4 months hosting The Mansion, a new fictional news TV Show on The Comedy Channel. Combined with developing a new Weekend Breakfast Show on Triple M, Toast with Terri Psiakis and Justin Hamilton, Charlie sure has been busy.

Keeping his stand up skills firing, Charlie has also performed solo seasons at the Griffin Theatre in Sydney, the Adelaide Fringe and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Also, as if he wasn’t busy enough, Charlie has recently had a book commissioned and will be writing “Impractical Jokes”, based on his 2007 Comedy Festival show, for release in late 2009.

And we haven’t even finished the year!
2007 was also a busy one, with Charlie’s live performances including the Adelaide Fringe Festival, where he was nominated for Best Established Comedy, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as popping up at the Castlemaine State Festival, The Canberra Street Theatre and comedy clubs throughout Australia. Keeping his international jetsetting lifestyle alive, Charlie spent 2 weeks in Johannesburg, South Africa, as part of the UN Comedy Roadshow and a month in New Zealand supporting Danny Bhoy on his National Tour.

Charlie has earned many an accolade for his live work over the years, including nominations for the Perrier Best Newcomer Award in Edinburgh and the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as being named Best International Guest by the NZ Comedy Guild.

Charlie began to perform solo stand up in the pubs and clubs of Melbourne in 2000. He started the cult comedy room Stagetime with fellow comic Michael Chamberlin, each taking turns as compere. Since then he has built a reputation as a quality performer, a talented host and a natural storyteller.

But his talents don’t end with live work. Charlie spent two years co-hosting Triple J’s Drive Show and was a regular on ABC TV’s comedy show Stand Up! You may also have spotted him in 2004 most Friday mornings with Michael Chamberlin dissecting the news of the week on Nine’s Today program. Most recently he has been a regular host on The Comedy Channel and also performed stand up on Rove [Live].
