CONTRARY MARY

CONTRARY MARY

WATCH OUT! She might give you a clip under the ear for dropping your dirty wrapper... but then, should she be forgiven for watering the weeds in the pavement?

Knee High Puppeteers presents... CONTRARY MARY Lorinda Curnow and Emma O'Neill WATCH OUT! She might give you a clip under the ear for dropping your dirty wrapper... but then, should she be forgiven for watering the weeds in the pavement?

Tell me, have you ever seen an old woman dance the tango with a stray dog and a beat up trolley? Is she crazy, or can this senile be smarter than we think? In a new work by Knee High Puppeteers, a giant 3 m tall elderly woman, created from the everyday items we discard, roams the busy streets prompting you to save the world and find your soul.

Through a fragile encounter with a small lost girl, (1 m tall Bunraku style puppet), Mary's surprisingly brazen character is tempered in an exchange that both delights and challenges each spectator. As an unlikely prophetess, Mary shuffle-dances us into the new world, reminding us to wash behind our ears, but only with environmentally friendly soap, and to take sincere notice of each other, even when we're not in love.

Contrary Mary compels each one of us to reinterpret our future with the hope and daring of a single healing action.
