Ikebana Ikebana is the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is a creative art with a contemplative aspect and has strong links with Zen meditation. It reflects respect for nature and the search for man�fs place within the natural world which is integral to Japanese culture.

Practice of this art can reduce stress, prevent burnout, promote healing and increase the ability to find creative solutions to problems. Demonstration: Shoso creates 6 rrangements from a traditional basic style, a miniature arrangement to a medium size arrangement (up to 100 cm high), one of which the clients can keep for their display.

During the demonstration, Shoso will talk about the brief history of Ikebana and its significance in the contemporary Japanese culture and society. You will find out why Ikebana is the most popular art in Japan with over 7 million practitioners, almost 5% of the total Japanese population. Workshop This workshop takes participants through the essence of basic Ikebana. You�fll enjoy the relaxing and contemplative process as you create your own arrangements.

You may also find yourself re-energised through the magic of touching beautiful gifts of nature. Arrive with nothing and leave with delicate floral works of art and the inspiration to make may more. At the end of the session, you will have an opportunity to have an individual consultation with Shoso and share the philosophy behind your unique arrangements with other participants.

The works can be left as an exhibition for the other members of the institution so that participants can enjoy seeing their works on display. Display Services Regular arrangements (for restaurants, receptions etc.) or special occasion arrangements (wedding, conferences, theatre, concert installation etc.).

Shoso Shimbo is a certified teacher of Ikebana who is qualified to run certificate and teaching diploma courses in Sogetsu style Ikebana. He has 20 years experience in Ikebana and studied under the Sogetsu Head Master, Hiroshi Teshigahara.

Shoso was selected by belle magazine as one of Australia's top floral designers and he won the coveted Gold Award at the 2006 Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show.

He has BA and MA in Eastern Philosophy, and PhD in Education.
