Acushla is Artistic Director, trainer and teacher at Sacred Tribe Dance Studios in South Australia (since 2004). She directs and performs in Adelaide's tribal belly dance troupe Omnia and is also a solo artist. Since the school opened in 2004, Acushla has trained six additional teachers to assist her in the studios.
Acushla began learning Egyptian belly dance and has for the last 6 years focused primarily on Tribal Style Belly Dance and Tribal Fusion. She has learnt from master teachers and performers (Carolena Nerricio, Paulette Rees Denis, and Rachel Brice) and continues her training. She has received ongoing tuition with International performer and dance company director, Shakti Chakravarty for the past 2 years, learning the classical Indian Dance Bharata Natyam. Acushla has also had private tuition in Flamenco and has attended workshops with local Flamenco company, Triana Flamenco Studios. Having travelled to Perth, Melbourne and Sydney to attend master workshops with International and national teachers, Acushla has developed her own style representing the essence of cultural fusion dance. Her main influences include Classical belly dance, Flamenco and Aesthetics from Classical Indian dance.
Her performance experience ranges from corporate events, community shows and private functions. Recent performance history includes the grand opening of the SANTOS eco building, guest appearance at Triana Flamenco Show, Silk Road Journeys multicultural performance afternoon, various private functions and local community fairs. Some of which include 'Gather the women festival', training dance students at Wilderness College and St Charles Campbell Secondary college in preparation for the theatre production '1001 nights', as well as regular intensive focus workshops for students attending her school. As director of STDS, Acushla has coordinated and managed several shows, which have incorporated students and teachers from her school as well as local and International artists, such as Shakti Chravarty.
Acushla has attained an advanced diploma in Traditional Chinese medicine and is a practicing acupuncturist. Her understanding of energy medicine and how imbalances impact the body is incorporated into her dance practice.
