Mucky Duck Bush Band

WA’s Premier bush band

Mucky Duck Bush Band has been part of WA entertainment for over 40 years. We have performed at festivals, corporate & community events across Australia and overseas.

Major WA events include the ANZAC Day Breakfast at Supreme Court Gardens in Perth, the Masters Swimming Championships and WAs biggest naturalisation ceremonies. The end of 2009 found the band at Government House at a function for the Governor of WA and in early 2010 a function for the Prime Minister during his visit to Perth. In 2013 Mucky Duck performed at the Australia Day Skyworks on Perth water.

Our music is lively and has broad appeal: we play mostly acoustic instruments and at family- friendly sound levels. Songs range from tourist favourites such as Waltzing Matilda and the National Anthem through traditional Aussie folk to contemporaries such as John Williamson, as well as originals in the Bush Band style.

A major element of many of our shows is bush dancing. Our expert dance callers explain the steps beforehand as well as during the dance. The dances are fun, easy to learn and tailored to suit different age groups, from pre-primary to grandparents to the whole family. Have a look at our YouTube video (see link below) to see how it's done.

Heritage events

Mucky Duck is pure Australiana- we look the part, the music sounds the part, and our dances are largely based on Colonial folk dances. Tourism Our Aussie character costumes and authentic instruments add to any tourism event. We fit in with tourism imagery- we've even been known to run the odd Two-Up game (our own non-gambling version).

Corporate

Corporate functions are a major element of our work. We have performed at Government House, the major hotels, the Casino, Perth Convention Centre, Frasers and many other formal venues. For overseas visitors at international functions we have some simple, quick-to-learn dances to give them the authentic Bush Band experience.

Festivals, Fairs

We can offer concert spots, a bush dance or even a children's show. Social club functions Over the years the Duck has played at many social club functions including yacht clubs and various sporting groups. Our dances are well-received by young and old. We are also happy to help with announcements and raffles etc. ??? ?

Parties: Weddings, Birthdays, Anniversaries

Wherever we go, people remember us for playing at a family wedding or other landmark event. We're very accommodating and happily adjust our set times and music levels, make announcements and provide a microphone for speeches. Of course, we adjust our dances to suit the age range and energy level of the guests.

LINEUP

Mucky Duck normally performs as a 3-piece, but for large events we can present as a 4 or 5-piece if preferred. Our main lineup, as a 3-piece, is fiddle, acoustic guitar and bass guitar (or double bass for themed events), with lead vocals and harmonised backing vocals. Harmonica, mandolin and tin whistle are occasionally used to vary the sound. Extra players add other folk instruments to the lineup, and we can even add a drummer to provide a more youth-friendly sound for large contemporary events.

PA

We have ample experience working with concert sound systems and can provide a stage plan for our act. Alternatively we can supply our own PA, often saving hundreds of dollars. Our PA can be configured to suit different size venues/audience. We can also supply stage lighting.
