Gary Wilson is a former Australian Army soldier, keynote speaker and resilience educator who helps audiences understand what it really takes to recover, adapt and keep moving forward after life changes without warning.

After 20 years in the Australian Defence Force, including operational service in East Timor and Afghanistan, Gary’s life changed forever in June 2010 when the Black Hawk helicopter carrying his platoon crashed during a mission in Afghanistan. The crash claimed the lives of three Australian soldiers and left Gary with life-threatening injuries, including multiple fractures, extensive burns and a severe traumatic brain injury.

Doctors did not expect him to survive. He spent almost three months in a coma and then faced the long road of relearning how to walk, talk and live independently. What followed was a decade-long journey of recovery, adaptation and rediscovering purpose.

Today, Gary delivers powerful, honest and deeply human keynotes that combine military experience, catastrophic injury, rehabilitation and life after service. His presentations go beyond simple motivation, giving audiences practical lessons on resilience, leadership under pressure, teamwork, accountability, adaptability and finding purpose after major change.

Gary has inspired Defence members, veterans, corporate teams, government organisations, schools, sporting groups and community audiences. A former Invictus Games competitor, bronze medallist, personal trainer and recovery advocate, he shows that while adversity can change the direction of your life, it does not have to define its outcome.

His message is simple: you may not control what happens to you, but you can control what you do next.
