Bill Collins has been presenting movies on television and video for more than 30 years and is acknowledged as “Mr Movies of Australia”.  This distinctive title highlights his depth of knowledge and appreciation of the arts, including music – popular and classical along with literature and dance.
 
Bill’s charisma, charm and warmth have made him one of this country’s most loved and respected high profile personalities, a fact proven by the hundreds of letters he receives from all over the country every week. A recent study showed Bill was recognised by 92% of a demogaphic ranging from15 to 60 years old.
Bill’s television career began when he first appeared on ABC TV nationally presenting and producing a series of segments on film appreciation. In 1966 he appeared on Channel 9 with the Golden Years of Hollywood series and in 1975 moved to Channel 7 with Bill Collins’ Golden Years of Hollywood, Bill Collins’ Picture Show and Bill Collins’ Show Business. In 1980 he moved to Network Ten where he again presented the very popular Golden Years of Hollywood nationally.
 
In 1995, Bill joined the News Corporation and Telstra Corporation cable television network, FOXTEL. Bill brings back the Golden Years of Hollywood every night of the week when he presents Fox Classics – the dedicated movie zone on the fX channel.
 
Bill hosts from the Boatshed Theatrette, showcasing Twentieth Century FOX’s fantastic library of musicals, action thrillers, comedies and academy award winners and will bring back classic favourites and critically acclaimed titles from one of the most prolific studios in cinematic history.
 
In addition to a host and presenter, Bill is fully qualified teacher at both secondary and tertiary levels.  At present he lectures regularly on film and associated subjects at various Universities including the University of Sydney where he gained his B.A. (Hons) Dip.Ed.M.Ed.
 
Bill’s career as a film critic covers newspapers, magazine interviews (over 500 celebrities) and reviews which eventually led to the publication of three books: The Electric Classroom in collaboration with two colleagues at the Sydney Teachers’ College; Bill Collins’ Book of Movies and Bill Collins Presents The Golden Years of Hollywood. He has also launched his own series of classic movies on video through CEL – The Bill Collins Movies Collection.
 

Bill is constantly in demand as a teacher / lecturer, as a guest speaker and for personal appearances and is currently lecturing at the University of Sydney – Centre for Continuing Education and the Australian National University of Canberra. His lecture series include the MGM and Warner Brothers story, Movie Masterpieces, Discovering Movies Masterpieces, and Jewels of British Cinema, Broadway to Hollywood, A Day with Alfred Hitchcock, Hollywood on Hollywood, Film Noir, Books Into Films, Extraordinary Women, Hollywood Goes to War.
 
Bill’s library / office / research centre is enormous. He possesses an amazing library of reference and press books, journals, photographs, movie editions of novels, soundtracks and other materials relevant to the analysis, discussion and presentation of films.
 
In 1987, Bill’s achievements were recognised formally when he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his services to film and television.
