Nigel Ruck joined Backyard Blitz as the resident landscaper when it premiered in 2000 and has seen friendships blossom over the past six years on Australia’s favourite garden makeover program.

Originally from Birmingham in England, Nigel Ruck moved to Australia in 1992 after visiting in 1988 as part of a world tour when he travelled through Europe, the United States, South East Asia, India, Nepal and New Zealand.
 
He enjoys the total transformation that Backyard Blitz achieves and its different designs and innovative use of plants and materials.

He started landscaping in 1990 and his interest struck when he began work with a lawn mowing contractor. He then worked with a couple of landscapers before establishing his own landscaping and design business in Sydney in 1996.
 
Nigel Ruck gained his Landscape Trade Certificate in 1998 from Ryde TAFE where he also began a Diploma of Landscape Design course. To help in running his own business, he also did a small business course through Adult Education.
 
For five consecutive years – 2001, ’02, ’03, ’04 and ‘05 – the huge popularity of Backyard Blitz has been acknowledged in winning the TV Week Logie for Most Popular Lifestyle Program.
 
Based in the Sydney suburb of Manly, Nigel’s business provides a landscaping and design service for both domestic and commercial gardens throughout the metropolitan area.
 
In his book “Hands-On Home Landscaping From The Paving Guy” , Nigel explains how he believes that anyone with a can-do attitude can turn an ordinary outdoor space into one that is well-designed, functional and a reflection of their own style. A practical guide to designing and landscaping your own outdoor area, this book is a must-have for all DIY enthusiasts and anyone interested in improving their outdoor living spaces.
