After graduating from the WA Academy of Performing Arts, Elisa Wilson was invited to join the WA Opera as a cadet soprano, making her debut as Despina
in Cosi fan Tutte. Following those excellent performances, Miss Wilson performed as Adele
in Die Fledermaus. Other roles with that company have included Nanetta
in Falstaff, the Sandman and Dew Fairy
in Hansel and Gretel, Micaela
in Carmen, Pamina
in The Magic Flute, Gilda
in Rigoletto, Susanna
in The Marriage of Figaro, Norina
in Don Pasquale, Adina
in The Elixir of Love, Musetta
in La Boheme, Leila in The Pearl Fishers, Alice Ford
in Falstag and World Premieres, Nanette
in The Eureka Stockade and Heloise
in Heloise and Abelard. With other companies in Western Australia, she has performed Greta
in Brian Howard's Metamorphosis and Mrs. Green
in Harrison Birtwistle's Down by the Greenwood Side.
Miss Wilson has also performed for the Victoria State Opera (prior to its
merger with the then Australian Opera) as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni and The Girl in The Emperor of Atlantis. In conjunction with the Spoleto Festival in Melbourne, she also performed as Echo in Asiadne auf Naxos. She made her debut with Opera Australia as Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream performing at the 1994 Edinburgh Festival; for that company has also repeated Helena in Sydney and was featured as Rosalinda in Fledeirmaus at the Sydney Opera House, and Musetta in the new production of La Boheme.
A regular soloist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in a variety of concert programmes, recordings and recitals, Miss Wilson has also appeared as a soloist for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Perth Light Opera, the Perth Oratorio Choir, the Australian Pops Orchestra, the Queensland Pops Orchestra, the Sydney University Musical Society, and the Vienna Male Voice Choir, as well as concerts for Opera Australia.
In 1994 Miss Wilson was awarded a Creative Development Fellowship from Arts WA, and spent 12 months in London studying with acclaimed vocal coach Janice Chapman. In London, Miss Wilson has given recitals at St Marti n-i n-the- Fields, St James' Piccadilly, and at Australia House. In 1998, she represented Australia in the Third International Stanislaw Moniuszko Competition at the National Theatre, Warsaw, Poland, run by the Ministry of Culture and Art of Poland.
In 2000, she sang the soprano solos in the Phillip Glass Choral Symphony for the Perth Festival, covered the Countess in Capriccio and Rosalinda in Fledermaus for Opera Australia and sang Handel's Messiah for the University of WA Choral Society and the Perth Oratorio Choir. Miss Wilson will perform at the 2001 New Year's Eve Gala at Perth Concert Hall and, for West Australian Opera in 2002, will sing the role of Musetta in La Boheme and appear as soprano soloist in Opera in the Park.
